Matrimony in the Catholic church is defined as the "covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life and which is ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring".
Matrimony is the Sacrament made by Jesus Christ to sanctify the lawful union of a Christian man and a Christian woman.
Requirements for marriage in the Catholic Church include:
- At least one of the recipients is a baptized Catholic
- Freely entering into the sacrament
- Attend marriage preparation classes
- Being free from mortal sin at the time of marriage
